About this Adventure

Join me on my thrilling journey as I race-sail with Clipper Round The World from Portsmouth (UK), to Spain, Uruguay, South Africa, Australia, the Philippines, China, South Korea, USA, Panama, back to the USA before returning to Portsmouth.

*Race schedule last revised on 5 September 2025. Dates shown represent estimate earliest arrival at and departure from the port; actual arrival and departure may differ

Is this a solo journey?

No, the journey involves 15 to 20 people working together to navigate and manage the race boat effectively. Unlike me, some crew members will not attend the whole eight legs of this race, hence the variation in the number of crew members.

What type of boat do you use?

We use a 70-foot race boat ("Clipper 70") designed for long-distance sailing across various sea conditions with speed reaching 35 knots. More information regarding the boat specifications can be found here.

Can I follow the journey?

Absolutely! Here are several channels from which you can follow me on this journey:

  • Be part of the WhatsApp "Henri's Great Sailing Madness" group chat or subscribe to the mailing list to get notifications whenever I post a new article

  • Washington DC Clipper's Facebook and Instagram pages

  • For real-time tracking, click here!

Can I contact you while you're at the sea?

While sailing through the 40,000 nautical miles of seas and oceans, it may not come as a surprise that I do not have access to phone calls, my email or social media as frequently as on land. Nevertheless, you can still contact me through the following channels:

  • While I'm at sea, email me at sailing@guedeney.com - this is the only form of communication using the boat's satellite communication device; please use a simple format (i.e. ONLY text; no picture or signatures) when writing to this email address

  • When I'm on land, regular WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facetime will work as usual - note that my time may be very limited at certain stopovers; thus, please do not be alarmed if I do not get back to you right away

  • Anything urgent? Please contact my wife, Utami

Is this safe?

We are doing everything in our power to make this journey safe. Each sail boat operates under the guidance of a highly experienced skipper and its progress is monitored 24/7 by the organiser. Regardless of experience, all crew members had to complete four rigorous trainings prior to embarking on this journey. Lastly, our state-of-the-art race boat, Clipper 70, was built with safety in mind, and gets the necessary maintenance by the expert Clipper Maintenance Team at each stopover.
